Your adventure begins first thing in the morning at 4:00 a.m., with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. From there, you will embark on a scenic drive of approximately 4 hours, during which you will travel through picturesque Andean villages until you reach Capuliyoc, a spectacular viewpoint from which you will gaze upon the immensity of the Apurímac Canyon, recognized as one of the deepest canyons in the world.
Once at Capuliyoc, you will meet your trekking team and, after the initial briefing, you will begin a gradual descent along mountain trails that were originally laid out by the ancient Incas. Throughout the entire journey, you will be surrounded by incredible panoramic views that open up before you at every bend in the path. Along the route, you will pass through native vegetation, vividly colored landscapes, and, if weather conditions allow, you will have the opportunity to observe Andean condors soaring majestically through the sky.
After a morning of hiking, you will enjoy a relaxing lunch in the town of Chiquisca, where you will recharge your energy. Then, you will resume your ascent, now surrounded by increasingly lush vegetation, until you reach Santa Rosa Alta, where your comfortable campsite awaits you for this first night. There, we will serve you a freshly prepared dinner, which you can savor while admiring an impressive starry sky, all enveloped in the absolute tranquility that only the Andes can offer.

- Estimated Hiking Time: 6 to 7 hours
On the second day, you will wake up to a delicious and energizing breakfast that will prepare you for the most anticipated day of the trek. You will then continue your ascent toward Marampata, a beautiful mountain community from which you will enjoy truly impressive panoramic views of Choquequirao and the valleys that stretch out below it.
From Marampata, the trail will lead you directly to the magnificent Choquequirao Archaeological Complex, considered one of the largest and most enigmatic Inca architectural ensembles ever discovered. There, your expert guide will accompany you on a detailed tour through its imposing temples, ceremonial plazas, stepped agricultural terraces, ancient water fountains, and sacred enclosures, all while immersing you in the fascinating history that surrounds this extraordinary site.
You will have the entire day to calmly explore every corner of the extensive archaeological complex, with more than enough time to take photographs, absorb the energy of the surroundings, and enjoy its peaceful atmosphere, far removed from the noise and crowds of more heavily visited destinations.
As evening approaches, you will begin your return journey to Marampata, where a hot dinner and another night of rest await you, once again surrounded by a dreamlike mountain landscape that will accompany you until dawn.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is this trek suitable for beginners or people with no previous trekking experience?
This trek is considered moderate to challenging due to the steep ascents and descents, as well as the high altitudes reached during the journey. While previous trekking experience is not strictly required, we recommend that participants have a good physical fitness level and are accustomed to walking for several hours on uneven terrain. We also suggest spending at least 2 to 3 days in Cusco prior to the trek to properly acclimatize to the altitude.
2. What is the best time of year to do the Choquequirao Trek?
The best time to undertake this trek is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During these months, you can expect sunny days and clearer skies, making for better views and more comfortable hiking conditions. The rainy season (November to March) brings heavier rainfall, which can make the trails muddy and slippery, and may also affect visibility from the viewpoints.
3. Can I store my luggage in Cusco while I am on the trek?
Yes, absolutely. Most hotels in Cusco offer secure luggage storage for their guests free of charge while you are on the trek. Alternatively, we can recommend trusted storage facilities near the main square where you can leave your belongings for a small daily fee. You will only need to bring a small daypack with the essentials for the trek, while the rest of your luggage can remain safely stored in the city.
4. Is there phone signal or internet access along the route?
For most of the trek, there is no phone signal or internet access. The route passes through remote and mountainous areas where connectivity is extremely limited. However, our guides carry radio or satellite communication equipment for emergencies. We recommend letting your family or friends know in advance that you will be unreachable for 3 days, so they are not worried.
5. What happens if I get injured or cannot continue the trek?
Our guides are trained in first aid and carry a complete first aid kit as well as an emergency oxygen bottle. In case of a minor injury, we will evaluate the situation and decide whether you can continue or if you need to descend to a lower altitude. For serious emergencies, we will use our satellite communication to coordinate a rescue operation, which may include evacuation by mule or helicopter (at your own expense, covered by your travel insurance). That is why we strongly recommend having comprehensive travel insurance that covers trekking and emergency evacuation.
