Machu Picchu Tour by Train – 2 Days

This 2-day Machu Picchu tour by train begins with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Then, in our private transportation, we will travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the Ollantaytambo train station, where we will board the train to Aguas Calientes.

During the approximately two-hour train journey, you will enjoy charming views of the Urubamba River while passing Andean villages and extensive agricultural areas. This route offers unique landscapes of the Peruvian Andes and an unforgettable experience on the way to Machu Picchu.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, our representative will accompany you to the hotel. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the town on your own or visit the famous hot springs that gave the town its name. You may also visit the interesting Machu Picchu Museum.

Later in the evening, our local expert will meet with you at your hotel in Aguas Calientes to provide all the information and recommendations about the itinerary for the following day.

We will depart very early in the morning to visit Machu Picchu. The hotel staff will provide you with a snack box before starting the tour. Then, we will take the bus to the main entrance of the citadel on an approximately 25-minute uphill ride.

Upon arrival at the entrance to Machu Picchu, our local expert will assist you during the security check, where your ticket will be verified together with your original passport. We generally enter among the first groups of the day, giving you the opportunity to witness the sunrise over Machu Picchu.

Guided Tour in Machu Picchu

You will enjoy an approximately two-hour guided tour through the iconic Inca ruins. During the visit, you will explore different sectors of the archaeological complex, including the royal quarters, Inca temples, ceremonial centers, and agricultural terraces, along with other places of great historical importance.

After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the citadel on your own. If you booked the hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, our guide will indicate the corresponding access point.

Please note that tickets for Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain must be booked in advance, as permits usually sell out several months ahead. Therefore, we recommend requesting these tickets at the time of booking the tour.

From the summit, you will be able to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view and observe the route followed by Hiram Bingham during the rediscovery of Machu Picchu.

As an alternative, you can also hike to the Sun Gate, a route that does not require prior reservation and offers a unique view of the Inca citadel. This is the same access used by travelers hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

The round-trip hike between the citadel and the Sun Gate takes approximately two hours.

Later, we will take the bus back down to the town of Aguas Calientes. From there, you will board the return train to Ollantaytambo, where our representative will be waiting to transfer you back to the city of Cusco.
