We start in Cusco and travel through the cloud forest until we reach the Madre de Dios River.
Along the way, we’ll pass through impressive cloud forest landscapes, home to many bird species like the cock-of-the-rock. Manu National Park includes both mountain and lowland rainforest areas, so you’ll get to see different types of environments in one trip.
We’ll visit the Alto Madre de Dios and Manu Rivers, where you’ll see dense vegetation and native wildlife. This area is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Exploring the Manu Biosphere
The tour includes a visit to the buffer zone of the Manu Biosphere Reserve, a protected area full of life. You’ll be able to see different types of birds and animals in their natural setting. Tour Itinerary
Day 1: From Cusco to Manu National Park
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 5:00 a.m. to begin our adventure. Our first stop is the pre-Inca archaeological site of Ninamarca. From there, we will travel through the mountains to Tres Cruces, the highest point and main entrance to Manu National Park. This area is one of the most protected natural regions in South America.
We will continue exploring the cloud forest for approximately three hours. Along the way, we may spot the Andean cock-of-the-rock, the national bird of Peru, and the woolly monkey. We will also pass by bromeliads and orchids, and with some luck, we may see wildlife such as the Andean bear, blue-banded toucanet, golden-headed quetzal, and crested quetzal.
In the late afternoon, we will arrive at Amazon Pona Lodge. After settling in, there will be an optional night walk through the jungle, where we may encounter tarantulas, frogs, snakes, night monkeys, boas, and more. Rubber boots will be provided for safety.

This first day offers a solid introduction to the Manu Biosphere Reserve and its rich wildlife.
Day 2: Jungle exploration and return to Cusco
After an early breakfast, we explore the jungle trails surrounding the lodge. During the walk, we will hear macaws, woodpeckers, toucans, and parrots. We will learn about local medicinal plants and look for different monkey species, such as squirrel monkeys, capuchins, tamarins, and howler monkeys.
We will visit Lake Machuwasi and take a ride on a small wooden raft to spot wildlife such as the prehistoric hoatzin, cormorants, herons, and kingfishers.
After lunch and a short rest, we will begin the return journey to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel, concluding our 2-day tour in the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
