Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Bambu Lodge

We will begin this 7-day tour at 5:00 A.M. in private transportation. Our adventure starts in Cusco, at 3,400 meters above sea level. The route first takes us through the Andean highlands, crossing scenic valleys and traditional villages. As we ascend, the landscapes become more impressive.

After 90 minutes we will arrive at Ninamarca, located at 3,750 meters. Here we will explore ancient pre-Inca funerary towers built by the Lupaca people. Our guide will explain their cultural importance and Andean burial traditions. These stone structures offer views over deep valleys and surrounding mountains.

We will continue another 40 minutes to Paucartambo, a colonial town full of folklore. Its narrow streets, adobe houses, and famous white bridge make it an important cultural stop. We will enjoy a traditional breakfast while listening to stories about local festivities such as the Virgen del Carmen celebration.

From there we will continue to Abra Acjanaco, at 4,000 meters above sea level, the official entrance gate to Manu National Park. We will make a brief stop to register our passports. Then we will begin our descent into the mysterious Cloud Forest.

In this green world we may observe orchids, moss-covered trees, and giant ferns. The cloud forest hosts an incredible diversity of life. From the forest canopy we may hear trogons, toucans, and quetzals. With luck, we might even spot the elusive spectacled bear.

In San Pedro we will stop to enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by dense forest. Afterwards we will walk along a short trail to observe Peru’s national bird, the Andean cock-of-the-rock, performing its striking courtship dance in its daily display area.

Finally we will continue to Bambu Lodge, located at 550 meters above sea level, where we will spend the night. The lodge features comfortable rooms, private bathrooms, mosquito nets, electricity, and internet. In the evening we will enjoy a warm dinner surrounded by the atmosphere of the jungle.
