Tour Description
We will set out from Cusco through Paucartambo toward the mist-covered cloud forest, where lush vegetation will surround us. Monkeys, hummingbirds, and orchids will fill the journey with color and sound. At the end of the day, we will settle into Bambu Lodge, near the edge of the Amazon.
From there we will reach Atalaya, where our navigation along the Madre de Dios River will begin. The river will carry us deep into the jungle, with possible sightings of capybaras and caimans. At Dorado Lodge we will rest surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest and an endless green landscape.
Soon we will enter the heart of the Manu Reserved Zone through Boca Manu. Along the river we may spot red macaws and giant river otters. At Casa Matsiguenka we will experience the rhythm of the forest and take part in a guided night walk under the stars.
In the Heart of Manu – Wildlife, Culture and Serenity in the Jungle
We will paddle by canoe across Cocha Salvador, a calm lake rich in wildlife. Black caimans, hoatzins, and playful giant river otters may cross our path. Walks through the dense forest will lead us to cultural encounters with indigenous wisdom and traditional Amazonian life.
Continuing along the Madre de Dios River, we will observe howler monkeys, herons, and perhaps even jaguars. In Makisapayoc we will rest beneath the rainforest canopy. The stillness of nature will offer moments of wonder and reflection.
The journey continues toward Blanquillo, home of the famous Macaw Clay Lick. Dozens of parrots and macaws may create a vibrant spectacle. Near Cocha Blanco we can drift silently among caimans and squirrel monkeys. Nights at Blanquillo Lodge will offer a full immersion in nature.
Finally, we will travel toward Puerto Colorado and continue to Puerto Maldonado accompanied by Machu Picchu Amazon Peru. With memories of untouched nature and extraordinary wildlife, we will leave the Manu Reserved Zone behind, though we will never forget it.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Bambu Lodge
We will begin this 7-day tour at 5:00 A.M. in private transportation. Our adventure starts in Cusco, at 3,400 meters above sea level. The route first takes us through the Andean highlands, crossing scenic valleys and traditional villages. As we ascend, the landscapes become more impressive.
After 90 minutes we will arrive at Ninamarca, located at 3,750 meters. Here we will explore ancient pre-Inca funerary towers built by the Lupaca people. Our guide will explain their cultural importance and Andean burial traditions. These stone structures offer views over deep valleys and surrounding mountains.
We will continue another 40 minutes to Paucartambo, a colonial town full of folklore. Its narrow streets, adobe houses, and famous white bridge make it an important cultural stop. We will enjoy a traditional breakfast while listening to stories about local festivities such as the Virgen del Carmen celebration.
From there we will continue to Abra Acjanaco, at 4,000 meters above sea level, the official entrance gate to Manu National Park. We will make a brief stop to register our passports. Then we will begin our descent into the mysterious Cloud Forest.
In this green world we may observe orchids, moss-covered trees, and giant ferns. The cloud forest hosts an incredible diversity of life. From the forest canopy we may hear trogons, toucans, and quetzals. With luck, we might even spot the elusive spectacled bear.
In San Pedro we will stop to enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by dense forest. Afterwards we will walk along a short trail to observe Peru’s national bird, the Andean cock-of-the-rock, performing its striking courtship dance in its daily display area.
Finally we will continue to Bambu Lodge, located at 550 meters above sea level, where we will spend the night. The lodge features comfortable rooms, private bathrooms, mosquito nets, electricity, and internet. In the evening we will enjoy a warm dinner surrounded by the atmosphere of the jungle.

Day 2: Pilcopata – Atalaya – Madre de Dios River – Boca Manu – Dorado Lodge
We will enjoy breakfast before departing by vehicle to Atalaya, a small river port. The 45-minute drive takes us through lush vegetation and warm lowland jungle landscapes. Along the way we may see coca crops, banana trees, and hillsides covered with palm trees. Tropical butterflies and flowers accompany the journey.
At the port of Atalaya we will receive rubber boots and load our luggage onto a motorized boat. From this point we will begin our navigation along the Madre de Dios River, one of the great rivers of the Amazon. Its calm waters will accompany us on this journey full of surprises.
During the navigation we may observe herons, kingfishers, turtles, and the impressive King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa). Along the riverbanks it is possible to see monkeys moving among the trees while the jungle stretches endlessly around us.
We will make a stop at natural hot springs, where we will have the opportunity to relax in warm waters surrounded by vegetation and birdsong. Afterwards we will enjoy a picnic lunch by the river.
If conditions allow, we will visit Diamante, a native community of the Yine people. Here we will see their traditional stilt houses, seasonal fruits, and aspects of their daily life. Children from the community often welcome visitors with smiles and curiosity.
In the afternoon we will arrive at Boca Manu, located at 280 meters above sea level, a small Amazonian town that also functions as a control point. From there we will continue a short distance to Dorado Lodge, where we will spend the night. The lodge has comfortable rooms, solar energy, and internet access between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. We will finish the day with a hot dinner.

Day 3: Boca Manu – Entrance to the Reserved Zone – Casa Matsiguenka – Night Walk
Today we will enter the heart of the Manu Reserved Zone. This sector is strictly protected and hosts an incredible diversity of wildlife. After breakfast we will board our boat and head toward the Limonal control station, where park rangers will verify permits to allow entry.
As we navigate along the Manu River, the landscape becomes more wild and remote. We will pass giant ceiba trees, walls covered with vines, and clay riverbanks. Our guide will carefully scan the riverbanks for movement.
During the journey we may see capybaras, the largest rodents in South America. It is also possible to spot white caimans resting on sandbanks. With luck we might even see a jaguar resting in the shade.
Birdlife is also abundant in this area. We may observe Orinoco geese, hoatzins, and red-and-green macaws flying above the river. Our guide will explain their behavior and survival strategies in the jungle.
Around 4:00 p.m. we will arrive at Casa Matsiguenka, a rustic lodge managed by the local indigenous community. Here we will rest in simple but comfortable rooms equipped with mosquito nets and shared bathrooms.
Before dinner we will take a night walk. With flashlights in hand we will discover another side of the jungle. Tarantulas, tree frogs, and bioluminescent fungi appear in the darkness, revealing the forest’s nocturnal life.

Day 4: Cocha Salvador – Jungle Walks – Cultural Encounter
We will wake up to the sound of howler monkeys echoing through the forest. After breakfast we will take a 30-minute boat ride to Cocha Salvador, an oxbow lake full of wildlife.
We will walk quietly along forest trails while our guide shows us animal tracks and edible plants. Later we will board a silent catamaran to explore the lake. The water reflects the forest canopy stretching above us.
During the exploration we may observe giant river otters fishing in family groups. We might also see squirrel monkeys moving through the trees, while birds such as the sunbittern and anhinga rest along the shores.
Back at Casa Matsiguenka we will visit the community center. Matsiguenka families will welcome us and share part of their history. We will learn how they craft tools, prepare food, and use natural fibers to create useful objects.
Later we will participate in a cultural exchange where community members share their spiritual connection with the forest. Songs, stories, and ancestral beliefs will enrich our understanding of life in the jungle.
After dinner we may take another night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife. Creatures such as owls and frogs appear in the darkness.

Day 5: Casa Matsiguenka – Madre de Dios River – Makisapayoc
After breakfast we will say goodbye to Casa Matsiguenka. We will board our boat again and return to the Madre de Dios River. During the navigation our guide will help us spot more wildlife in the surroundings.
Macaws may fly in pairs above the trees, while river turtles rest in the sun on fallen logs. It is also possible to observe a great heron watching the river from the bank.
We will arrive at Makisapayoc Lodge, surrounded by tall trees and vines covering the forest. After lunch and a short rest, we will explore a clay lick where capybaras often gather to consume mineral-rich soil.
Later we will walk along a trail through the lowland forest. Giant trees host bromeliads and orchids, while ants, frogs, and butterflies appear along the path.
Our guide will explain how the natural balance of the forest works. Decomposition, rainfall, and sunlight maintain the life cycle in the jungle. At night we will return to the lodge for dinner and share stories under a star-filled sky.

Day 6: Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick – Cocha Blanco – Blanquillo Lodge
We will wake up early to visit the Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick. From a wooden platform we can observe hundreds of birds. Macaws, parrots, and parakeets cover the clay walls creating a colorful spectacle.
While enjoying breakfast outdoors, the forest comes alive. The calls of parrots echo as they land and feed at the clay lick. This is one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the Amazon.
Later we will visit Cocha Blanco, a remote lake located in the Peruvian Amazon. Aboard silent catamarans we will explore its calm waters, where wildlife appears in every corner.
We may observe dwarf caimans, howler monkeys, and herons along the lagoon. Floating lilies bloom near the boat while our guide shares information about aquatic ecosystems.
We will enjoy lunch on the riverbank. Then we will take a short transfer by motorized tricycle to Blanquillo Lodge. After settling in, we will walk along a forest trail to observe birds and insects. We will end the day with a final dinner accompanied by the sound of jungle cicadas.

Day 7: Blanquillo – Puerto Colorado – Puerto Maldonado
We will wake early to witness the sunrise in the jungle. Golden light filters through the forest canopy as birds begin to sing and howler monkeys call in the distance.
After breakfast we will begin our boat journey toward Puerto Colorado. We will navigate approximately 70 km downstream. During the journey we may observe kingfishers, hawks, and with luck even tapirs near the riverbanks.
Upon arrival in Puerto Colorado, our ground transportation will be waiting. From there we will travel for approximately three hours to Puerto Carlos, passing small Amazonian farms and regional rivers.
The final road segment will take us to Puerto Maldonado, where our Manu tour ends. We will transfer you to your hotel or the airport. The jungle experience will remain as an unforgettable memory.
