Maras and Moray Sacred Valley Bike Tour Half Day

The Sacred Valley Bike Tour is a popular half-day excursion from Cusco. Accompanied by our professional guide, you will enjoy an unforgettable experience visiting two of the main attractions of the Sacred Valley of the Incas: the archaeological site of Moray and the pre-Inca salt mines of Maras.

Both Maras and Moray were important places for the Incas. The tour begins with a trip to Cruz Pata, a small village where we will start riding mountain bikes through the most impressive landscapes of the Sacred Valley.

Maras is known for its salt terraces located on the side of a mountain. This place is one of the most photographed sites in the Sacred Valley. The salt mines have existed since pre-Inca times and have been passed down from generation to generation. Local families continue using traditional salt extraction methods through solar evaporation.

Through small aqueducts, natural spring water flows into the geometric pools. They then wait for the water to evaporate in order to manually collect the salt crystals.

Moray is another of the most important sites on the tour. Its agricultural terraces functioned as an agricultural laboratory for the Incas. The complex features a series of circular terraces distributed across different levels, where each level has a different temperature. There is a temperature difference of up to 15 degrees Celsius between the upper and lower sections.

Inca farmers experimented here with different growing conditions, allowing the development of a wide variety of agricultural products. Today, Peru produces more than 800 types of potatoes and more than 5 varieties of corn.

We recommend taking the Maras and Moray tour while acclimating in Cusco. In addition to enjoying the landscapes of the Cusco countryside, you will also learn more about Inca history before visiting Machu Picchu.

You can also visit Maras and Moray on an ATV tour or on a classic half-day tour.
