The 2-day Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick tour will take us deep into the Tambopata rainforest. During the journey we will travel along winding rivers and dense Amazonian forests starting from Puerto Maldonado. Little by little the city will fade behind us and the atmosphere will become calm and immersive. In just a few minutes we will be surrounded by the sounds and life of the Amazon.

Inside the Tambopata National Reserve we will visit one of the richest wildlife areas in the region. As we walk along forest trails we will be able to observe animals and tropical plants in their natural habitat. Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata Wildlife Center

We will be picked up at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado by our transport, which will take us directly toward Tambopata. The adventure begins with a scenic drive, leaving the city behind as the landscape gradually changes to the lowlands and dense Amazon rainforest. Upon arrival at the Filadelfia port, we will board a motorized boat to navigate the Tambopata and Malinowski rivers, where we will have our first sightings of the tropical rainforest.

Upon arrival at the lodge we will be welcomed with a tropical drink and have time to rest before lunch. The surroundings will immediately immerse us with the sounds and atmosphere of the jungle. This first contact with the Amazon will mark the beginning of the experience in the days ahead.

In the afternoon we will take an introductory walk with our guide along forest trails. During the walk we may observe wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, woodpeckers, frogs, and insects, as well as a great variety of Amazonian plants.

After dinner we will take a night walk around the lodge. During this activity we may observe species that appear after sunset, such as frogs, snakes, and tarantulas, along with other nocturnal animals.

Day 2: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Return to Puerto Maldonado

Very early in the morning we will travel by motorized boat to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, one of the best wildlife observation sites in the Amazon. This place is located on cliffs along the river and gathers large groups of macaws, parrots, and parakeets, which come together to feed on mineral-rich clay.

During the boat ride along the river we will have the chance to observe wildlife along the banks, such as capybaras, caimans, and monkeys, and sometimes even jaguars. Upon arrival we will enjoy breakfast while watching colorful birds arrive in pairs or groups, filling the cliffs with movement and sound.

Later we will take a short guided walk through the tropical forest to observe large trees and other species of flora and fauna. Our guide will explain the ecosystem and conservation of the region. After lunch at the lodge we will begin the return journey to Puerto Maldonado.
