Sandoval Lake has great biodiversity. Unlike the Madre de Dios River, the waters of the lake are clear and calm, making it an ideal habitat for many species. During the visit you may observe hoatzins, families of giant river otters, black caimans, as well as different species of birds and butterflies.
This two-day trip is not only about enjoying the tranquility of the nature surrounding Sandoval Lake. You will also have the opportunity to experience activities such as a canopy walk and zip line.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Monkey Island – Canopy Walk
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our team will welcome you at the airport or bus terminal and transfer you to our office. Here we will provide a brief introduction to the team that will accompany you during the tour.
You will also be able to safely leave your belongings in our office while you are on the tour. Once ready, we will transfer you to the dock to begin the boat journey along the Madre de Dios River for approximately one hour until reaching the ecolodge.
The lodge staff will give you a warm welcome with a local drink as a welcome beverage. After check-in, lunch will be served, consisting of a typical Amazonian meal.
Then we will begin the Sandoval Lake tour with a boat trip to Monkey Island. Here you can observe a wide variety of monkeys such as spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and other species.
Afterward we will take a walk along the canopy walk, which offers an impressive view of the Tambopata National Reserve from the treetops. Once the activity is finished, we will return to the lodge for dinner.
After dinner we will take a short night walk to observe caimans and black caimans.
